Rescue Background Story

Bob was brought in when he stopped eating and required intensive care.

When long‑term treatment became difficult for the owner, the sanctuary adopted him permanently.

When you donate or sponsor, you become part of their rescue journey — from survival to sanctuary.

Your kindness gives them the second chance they deserve.

Daily Care & Feeding Details

Morning Feeding

Time: 6AM

Feed Mix:

  • Natural pasture grazing consisting primarily of grass.
  • Romaine lettuce is offered two times per week as a supplemental food.
  • This feeding routine supports the high-fiber diet required by Sulcata tortoises.
Evening Feeding

Time: Evening grazing

Feed Mix:

  • Natural grass grazing with occasional supplemental leafy greens when needed.
  • Additional vegetables may be provided depending on seasonal pasture availability.
Fencing & Enclosure
  • Tortuga is free-ranging across the sanctuary pastures, allowing him to move and graze naturally.
  • The open environment provides space for natural tortoise behaviors such as walking long distances, grazing, and basking in the sun.
  • Sanctuary staff monitor boundaries and fencing to ensure he remains within safe areas.
Water Facilities
  • Tortuga has access to multiple ponds and water sources throughout the sanctuary.
  • He often spends time sitting near the ponds and basking in the sunlight, which helps regulate his body temperature.
  • Fresh water sources are monitored regularly to ensure safe drinking access.
Hygiene & Cleaning

Because Tortuga lives outdoors:

  • Natural soil and grass environments support healthy shell and skin conditions.
  • Sanctuary staff inspect the pasture areas regularly for hazards or debris.
  • Feeding areas and water sources are periodically cleaned to maintain a safe environment.
